Three seasons in one photo: autumn leaves and spiky horse chestnut cases, spring crocuses and early signs of the cow parsley that will replace them in early summer.
I swerved to a halt when driving this morning to capture the daffs and crocuses in the lunchtime sun. Beautiful. Spring is tangible.
Plant crocuses en- masse in full sun in late autumn. My children help out by chucking the bulbs around so I get a natural distribution. Mark where they are planted (plan or photo) and keep the pheasants away come spring as they will devour the flowers.
